DRS has assessed the meat consumption in Agra Town. It is a report for designing the New Slaughter house for small animals... Followings is summary...

Per capita Meat consumption is as follows

        Goat                125.5 Mt/month

        Chicken         344.0 Mt/month

        Buffalo           285.5 Mt/month

        Pig                  118.9 Mt/ month

        Fish                85.5 Mt/month

From figure 4 it is interpreted that there is two major meat consuming groups out of which despite smaller number of population nearly 45% meat is consumed by Muslims., Hindu though largest group 65% of total population, consume only 37.75 % of total production. Jain is the only community which does not consume Meat or its products

There is clear correlation between family income to the type of meat consumption. As the family income grows it tends to change is meat consumption from low cost meat products to costlier products.

There is also clear relationship between standard of education to the higher educated family consumes costlier meat products, this could be due to higher income.

Only 29.34 % population is strictly vegetarian.

Nearly 13% of population consume pre-cooked meat products only.

It is sheer Pleasure to announce another milestone in wastewater treatment, designing first PVA GEL based STP for TDI Mall at Kundli, Sonepat, Haryana. Plant is expected to be commissioned within 3 month.

It is first reactor with installed capacity to treat 200 KLD of wastewater, reduces power consumption during low organic loading rate (Idle time of mall) without reducing the Active biomass or without affecting performance during peak hours.

Ideally suitable for Variable Hydraulic & organic loading applications.

DRS in association with M/s. Ajanta Dairy, Agra, has successfully tested, model of milk concentrating unit based on membrane filtration.

During test we were able to concentrate milk upto 55%. Quality of Fat recovery & other factors were found within satisfactory limits.

Complete functioning unit is expected to start working within 90 days.

Possible applications

Reduction of cost in milk Transport.

Energy saving in production of Milk powder & other milk preparations.

Kakretha wetland has become talk of town…

People are looking at wetland as remedy to counter river pollution. Following is the pictorial update of site. Three of ponding area is full of water

Hope moisture will provide enough life in land once known as barren land !!!!!!!!

DRS & Uttar Pradesh Forest Department, Bainpur Range Agra, has taken up watershed management for more than 500 ha forest area, surrounded by dense populated area of Gailana, Kakretha Dist. Agra Uttar Pradesh. The watershed lies in between E 77^o 26’ 78.8 ^o N 26 ^o 26’ to 27 ^o 26’.

Environmental Impact:

 Present condition of watershed is pathetic, due to built-environment, higher runoff from highland and residential area has cause massive erosion and fertile soil is transported to river Yamuna.

• In post monsoon months there is hardly any moisture in soil, thus there is no large leaf tree in catchment area. Which is evident from Google images.

• The is soil erosion as deep as 11 m due to unchecked runoff during the monsoon.

Past efforts :

• Planation of Babool, a hardy plant, but requirement of firewood by nearby villagers destroy ecology

• Grazing of animals from nearby population and almost no moisture in soil, has dent of plantation of grass

• In year 2006 forest department installed earthen bunds, which could not survive due to flood and other factors.

Mitigation to be employed on watershed:

• Development of 1 m deep ponding areas, in all the drains carrying domestic drainage to forest land. A proper water segregation system is designed for separation of floating material, non-biodegradable garbage material in to wetland. Rainwater runoff is designed to be taken to rainwater harvesting area.

• All the highland area are having contour bunds and rainwater recharging areas, thus reducing the runoff to valley or wetland area. Reducing the chances of wash off of wetland.

• Before discharging water in to river water will pass through subsurface wetland to give polishing touch besides restoring ecology of ravine

Expected outcome:

• Restoration of wetland ecology

• Wastewater treatment

• Production of fish

• Reduction of soil erosion.

• Increment in ground water level.
